Places we left out, and places to read with care

Left out: Dawson Commons; Lehavre Townhomes; Meadow Lea; Perkins Cove. They have almost no residents: their crimes are against visitors, so a rate per resident says little about living there.

Quail Oak Garden Homes (83.3 per 1,000 from 9 crimes among 108 residents), Stanford Place (0.0 per 1,000 from 0 crimes among 114 residents), Hillsdale (6.3 per 1,000 from 1 crime among 160 residents), Woodchase (0.0 per 1,000 from 0 crimes among 269 residents), Woodstone (3.7 per 1,000 from 1 crime among 272 residents), Poets And Philosophers (20.1 per 1,000 from 7 crimes among 349 residents), College Hill (56.6 per 1,000 from 24 crimes among 424 residents), King's Hill (59.4 per 1,000 from 29 crimes among 488 residents), University Hills (3.1 per 1,000 from 2 crimes among 637 residents), Zee Zee Gardens (19.5 per 1,000 from 19 crimes among 973 residents), Pollard Estates (1.7 per 1,000 from 2 crimes among 1,183 residents) and Camellia Trace (13.9 per 1,000 from 18 crimes among 1,299 residents) are places with few residents (under 3,000): a rate on so few people says little about living there, so they are not named as the lowest or highest.

Sources and notes

CrimesLog sources crime incident data published by the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) through the Open Data BR platform (data.brla.gov), containing public sector information released under a Public Domain licence.

Population: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates (public domain).

First-place medal: 1st Place Medal emoji icon by Icons8.

Neighborhood boundaries are defined by EBRGIS, City of Baton Rouge / Parish of East Baton Rouge (gaps between neighborhood areas filled to the nearest neighborhood by CrimesLog), grouped into Metro Council districts and simplified by CrimesLog. The photographs are credited under each picture.

Rates are recorded crimes per 1,000 residents, quarter by quarter; where a neighborhood has fewer than 100 residents the rate would be worked out on 100 (those places are left out of the race). A count of recorded crime is not a verdict on any neighborhood.
