Places we left out, and places to read with care

Left out: Blythewood. They have almost no residents: their crimes are against visitors, so a rate per resident says little about living there.

Sabina-Mattfeldt (20.4 per 1,000 from 3 crimes among 147 residents), Villages of Homeland (4.3 per 1,000 from 2 crimes among 471 residents), The Orchards (4.2 per 1,000 from 2 crimes among 475 residents), Rosebank (16.5 per 1,000 from 8 crimes among 486 residents), Bellona-Gittings (0.0 per 1,000 from 0 crimes among 549 residents), Lake Evesham (4.6 per 1,000 from 3 crimes among 647 residents), Woodbourne-McCabe (40.0 per 1,000 from 27 crimes among 675 residents), Evesham Park (5.8 per 1,000 from 4 crimes among 686 residents), Radnor-Winston (11.7 per 1,000 from 9 crimes among 771 residents), Cameron Village (17.3 per 1,000 from 15 crimes among 868 residents), Cross Keys (10.3 per 1,000 from 9 crimes among 877 residents), Cedarcroft (5.4 per 1,000 from 5 crimes among 922 residents), Levindale (21.5 per 1,000 from 20 crimes among 930 residents), Kenilworth Park (18.1 per 1,000 from 17 crimes among 942 residents), Wyndhurst (7.9 per 1,000 from 8 crimes among 1,011 residents), York-Homeland (13.3 per 1,000 from 14 crimes among 1,055 residents), Coldspring (5.5 per 1,000 from 7 crimes among 1,268 residents), Belvedere (39.4 per 1,000 from 51 crimes among 1,294 residents), North Roland Park/Poplar Hill (8.3 per 1,000 from 12 crimes among 1,451 residents), Chinquapin Park (9.6 per 1,000 from 14 crimes among 1,455 residents), Mid-Govans (24.0 per 1,000 from 35 crimes among 1,461 residents) and Winston-Govans (21.4 per 1,000 from 35 crimes among 1,638 residents) are places with few residents (under 3,000): a rate on so few people says little about living there, so they are not named as the lowest or highest.

Sources and notes

CrimesLog sources crime incident data published by the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) through the City of Baltimore Open Data Hub, containing public sector information made available under the City of Baltimore Open Data Terms of Service.

Population: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates (public domain).

First-place medal: 1st Place Medal emoji icon by Icons8.

Neighborhood boundaries are the Neighborhood Statistical Areas defined by Baltimore City (Open Baltimore), grouped into police districts by CrimesLog and simplified by CrimesLog. The photographs are credited under each picture.

Rates are recorded crimes per 1,000 residents, quarter by quarter; where a neighborhood has fewer than 100 residents the rate would be worked out on 100 (those places are left out of the race). A count of recorded crime is not a verdict on any neighborhood.
